As expected, the company ZTE announced probably the most unusual smartphone in recent years. ZTE’s new device called Axon M is a smartphone with two full-size screens connected with a hinge. The original design allows you to transform the Axon M easily into a kind of tablet. In the folded state, Axon M represents the most common smartphone with a 5.2-inch screen, but if you open it, you get a small tablet. The manufacturer has provided many ways to use this solution to increase productivity.
“The ZTE Axon M is the beginning of a significant movement of smartphone capabilities, and ZTE is leading the way,” said Lixin Cheng, CEO of ZTE USA.
Let's start with the technical parameters. ZTE Axon M received an all-metal case and in its design, it resembles a miniature laptop. Both parts of the device have the same 5.2-inch displays with a Full HD resolution and are covered with a protective 2.5D-glass Corning Gorilla Glass 5. You can work both simultaneously and separately on the screens - and each of them can act as the main one. When fully unfolded, a single screen with a diagonal of 6.75 inches and a resolution of 1920 x 2160 pixels is formed. For example, the user has the opportunity to open the home screen on one display, and the list of apps on the other. Alternatively, you can run different programs on each screen and work with them simultaneously. And if necessary, the software will be deployed on both screens.
Axon M can work in four modes. When folded, the device works like a regular smartphone. In the second, Dual mode, each of the screens works with different applications that are independent of each other. Thus, it is possible to solve several tasks simultaneously. The third, Extended Mode, converts both displays into a single screen with a larger diagonal. The fourth, Mirror Mode, is intended for group viewing when both screens mirror the same information and the device is folded like a "triangle". The Traditional Mode enables you to turn off the secondary display and use the Axon M simply as a traditional smartphone.
In all other aspects, the ZTE Axon M is the most common smartphone with solid features technical specs. The smartphone is equipped with a quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM, a built-in 64GB storage with support for microSD cards up to 256 GB, a battery capacity of 3,180 mAh with Quick Charge 3.0 and a USB Type-C connector. In addition, there are stereo speakers in the smartphone, with support for Dolby Atmos surround sound technology and a dedicated audio chip AKM 4962.
The main camera of the ZTE Axon M is installed on the inside and is represented by a 20-megapixel Sony IMX 350 sensor with a lens with aperture f / 1.8, phase autofocus, dual flash and OIS. With the front camera, you can record videos in 4K resolution at a rate of 30 frames per second or 720p at 240fps.
The capacity of the battery is 3180 mAh, and with the use of both displays, this will clearly not be enough for long work. It supports quick recharging Quick Charge 3.0.
The geometric parameters of the ZTE Axon M smartphone in the folded form are 150.8 x 71.6 x 12.1 mm with the weight measuring at 230 g. The smartphone runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat.
The new product is expected to be available in the United States starting next month exclusively on AT&T. ZTE has confirmed that the Axon M will also be making available for sale on other markets as well, including China, Japan and Europe.
