Lenovo Tab 4 8 Review: Working, stylish and inexpensive tablet

Fans of Android tablets have long been looking for a worthy replacement for their two-year-old or older devices. Currently, among manufacturers, 2-in-1 tablets are popular, while the most common, good and high-quality tablet is very difficult to find. It seems that in 2017 the situation on the tablet market has improved.

Several months ago, Samsung introduced its new tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. It's really an interesting and powerful tablet, but not everyone can afford to buy it.

Lenovo has also released new devices for the Lenovo Tab 4 line. These are inexpensive tablets that run on Android 7.0 Nougat which are designed for both children and their parents.

Lenovo Tab 4 8 is the most compact tablet from the recently introduced series of Tab 4. In this article, I reviewed it in more details to find out if it's worth its money.

Specifications

Lenovo is known for its powerful tablets, and Tab 4 is one of them. The 8-inch screen has a resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels (LCD panel), so the image on it is easy to see even under direct sunlight, although the AMOLED or OLED-panel is brighter.

Above the screen of the Lenovo Tab 4 8 is located the front 2-megapixel camera for video chat or selfies, and on the back, there is a 5-megapixel sensor for the main pictures.

The Snapdragon 425 processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage for the operation are responsible for this work. It's not much, but you can increase the volume through the available micro SD card slot.

Two front speakers on the Lenovo Tab 4 with support for Dolby Atmos technologyprovide a sound of impressive quality.

From the connections are available Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. The operating system here is Android 7.1 Nougat, and for charging and data transfer the owner uses a micro USB connector.

Batteries with a capacity of 4850 mAh are enough for a whole day of comfortable use of the tablet.

Equipment

In addition to the Lenovo tablet itself, you'll find a cable and charging adapter in the box, as well as a quick start guide. The package is modest, but the most important thing is from the box.

Design

Lenovo Tab 4 8 is built with high quality, although the design itself is average if we talk about its features. The tablet is comfortable in your hands; you can hold it with one hand for a long time, and your hand will not get tired.

For an hour or two of playing video games, the Tab 4 8 got slightly heated, however, the soft back panel allows you not to be afraid of the fact that it can slip out of your sweaty palms.

Power buttons, up and down buttons are located on the right side of the tablet, and a small insert with the Lenovo logo and a micro SD card slot on the left. Front speakers are located on the top and bottom of the gadget, and the charging port and a 3.5-mm audio jack for headphones are on the top edge.

Average performance

The entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor and 2 GB of RAM provide an average performance. The Lenovo Tab 4 8 is suitable for visiting social networks, reading, watching videos and simple games, but not all at once.

Tab 4 8 copes with multitasking and demanding games with great difficulty, and to maintain maximum performance the table needs to take breaks.

In the single-core test mode of the benchmark Geekbench 4, this tablet from Lenovo scored 655 points, in the multi-core - 1395 points. In the same test, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 received 1786 and 5228 points, the OnePlus 3 smartphone - 1698 and 4015 points respectively. But, taking into account that Tab 4 costs only $ 130 and is much cheaper than competitors, these are acceptable indicators.

Rich Display

Video, games and everything else looks good on the 1280 × 800 pixel screen of the Lenovo Tab 4 8. The colors do not have the saturation, the image - the clarity, but the viewing angles are wide, and the color rendition is accurate.

Lenovo offers a decent display for a budget tablet. Those wishing to obtain the best quality should consider other, more expensive options.

Large battery

Battery capacity of 4850 mAh is enough for about 10 hours of work with the screen on, without recharging. It's impressive considering the size of the device.

Most users use the tablet only a few times a week, so Lenovo Tab 4 will work more than one day.

Decent Sound

The best thing in Tab 4 8 is the front stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos surround sound technology. Even a much more expensive Google Pixel with one speaker, for games and video fits less.

The sound is so loud that it has to be reduced to half. Distortion and unnatural sound is inaudible. The quality is high both for this price range, and for all tablets in general.

Software

There are several Lenovo applications preinstalled on the Tab 4 8, which are not available on gadgets from the Nexus series. The rest of the interface here is as on a pure Android Nougat - fans of this OS will not need long to get used to it.

Multi-window mode works well on a large display, although gestures are not available.

Camera

Tablets are too cumbersome and heavy to be convenient gadgets for shooting. Therefore, manufacturers rarely spend on a quality camera, as in the case of the budget-friendly Tab 4 8 tablet.

The camera application is also much simplistic. In addition to the standard mode, there is HDR and Scene Mode. Due to the size, the subject of photography is often not in the center, it takes longer to adjust the position than on the smartphone, which is very inconvenient.

Lenovo Tab 4 8 can be used for shooting only as a last resort in the absence of other cameras. The front 2-megapixel camera is better than the main one, in combination with a large screen it is ideal for video chatting.

The result

Lenovo Tab 4 8 does not impress with its characteristics and performance, but it is ideal for beginners or those who want to buy a stylish, inexpensive tablet.

Professional hybrid-tablets are able to replace a laptop for any task, but they are much more expensive. The new Lenovo Tab 4 8 is designed to communicate on social networks, reading e-books, browsing the web, simple games and sending emails, while being available for only $ 130.
