This year, the iPhone celebrated 10 years of its existence, and therefore the first presentation of Apple in the new headquarters of the company was particularly special. The main intrigue of the September event was the frameless iPhone X (this is pronounced "iPhone 10", not "iPhone ex"), presented in the company of two more mass models of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. All three smartphones received protection from water and dust according to the IP67 standard.
iPhone X received 5.8-inch OLED-display with a resolution of 2436x1125 pixels and minimal frames - the largest ever iPhone, it wasn’t named Super Retina without a reason. 3D Touch, HDR, almost infinite contrast (1,000,000: 1) is also featured in this cellphone. As expected, the smartphone lost the "Home" button and the fingerprint scanner Touch ID. At the top part of the phone, there is a cut for the speaker, front camera and a bundle of sensors, including an infrared camera. With them the user can unlock the smartphone using the new Face ID. The system recognizes the owner even in complete darkness, and neural networks and machine learning make hacking almost impossible. In general, facial photos are not exactly rolling. The new animated Anemoji emoticons in iMessage will copy the user's emotions based on the 3D face model.
The lack of a button on the iPhone X is compensated by gestures. A horizontal line appeared at the bottom of the screen, which when you slide up returns you to your home screen. If you hold your finger in one position, the list of recently launched applications opens. Rumors have reported that the power button would take over part of the usual functions, for example, its hold can quickly activate the Siri voice assistant.
In the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is everything much simpler. The smartphones have received IPS screens with a diagonal of 4.7 and 5.5 inches and 3D Touch technology, as in the previous generation. However, now they have become even better, and True Tone technology adjusts the color temperature for ambient lighting. Another feature is a button with a touch ID. The main innovation was a sturdy rear glass panel. All new products have only a metal frame (stainless steel in the iPhone X and aluminum in the rest), which allowed to realize the wireless charging standard Qi. Next year, Apple will release a branded AirPower charging pad, but for now, you can use third-party. Also, fast wire charging is supported up to 50% in the first 30 minutes.
At the heart of the smartphones was a new Apple A11 Bionic six-core processor with two powerful cores and four energy-efficient ones. It is 25% faster than its predecessor, and at comparable performance with the A10 chip consumes half the energy. Graphics performance increased by 30%. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are available in 64 GB and 256 GB versions, as well as the iPhone X. Without frames, the smartphone works for two hours longer than the iPhone 7.
The dual camera of the iPhone 8 Plus received new 12-megapixel modules with aperture f / 1.8 (wide angle) and f / 2.8 (telephoto). The iPhone 8's rear camera is still the same, with optical stabilization. Sensors capture 83% more light, which means that in poor lighting, the smartphones will shoot even better. There is also support for recording 4K-video at a frequency of 60 frames per second, as well as slow-motion shooting at 240 fps in Full HD.
The dual camera of the iPhone X is located vertically. Both 12-megapixel main camera modules are equipped with an optical stabilization system, and the flash has as many as four LEDs. Portrait mode is supported even when you’re shooting with the front camera, which was not specifically mentioned. Because on all smartphones the front camera is still of 7 megapixels.
In key markets, sales of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will begin on September 22 (pre-order from September 15). Prices are from $ 700 and $ 800 respectively. Customers will have to wait for the iPhone X until November 3 and its price will be at least $1000.
